If you see anything familiar in the movie Paper Towns, that opens this weekend, it may be because the high school scenes were shot at Central Cabarrus High School in Concord last December.

Check out Sunday’s Independent Tribune for a story and more photos from the filming.

CHARLOTTE – One of the Charlotte area’s signature annual events returns for three days this August. For the third consecutive year, the Charlotte Southern Women’s Show, now in its 33rd big year, will be held at the centrally located Charlotte Convention Center Aug. 28-30.

As always, guests can expect the best in lifestyle, health, beauty, family, food and fashion. And this year, the featured celebrities represent a wide range of backgrounds – from pop culture to politics. (A White House insider will offer behind-the-scenes scoop on the history of the executive mansion and what it’s like to entertain there.)

“This show is a tradition for so many women,” said Tish Atkins, executive show manager. “We have mothers and daughters (or mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law) who come each year. Groups of friends come, as well as groups of coworkers. It’s always inspiring – and the location is so convenient. We hope people will want to come, enjoy and explore all that uptown offers.”

The show remains an affordable way to get professional advice on everything from hair care to healthcare. Guests can get in the show for as little as $5 with a light rail ticket stub. Ticket prices remain the same this year as last.

More than 400 exhibiting companies are preparing to showcase their best at this year’s show. A few highlights include:
